Publishing New Terms: Starting a new entry

Publishing a new term starts with clicking on the 'New' link and entering the anticipated new term into the respective input field. We then click on the 'Save' button.

In the example, we have entered the term 'meningitis'. After a click on Save, we are informed that the new entry successfully has been inserted, and we can now edit this entry.

We can now complete the form. Note that partial entries can also be saved. In case you need to leave a form before finishing the complete entry, it is important to save the partial entry by clicking on the 'Save' button. Otherwise, all entered information is lost.

In order to publish the new entry, we complete the form. We first enter a concise description of the term.

The type of the term is a noun. Other choices in the pull-down list are Adjective, Verb, Combined, and Multiple. Combined is used for those terms that consist of two or more words. Multiple should be used for those words or terms that are used as both nouns and verbs or other combination of types.

Meningitis is not an Earth observation parameter, although meningitis incidences would be. An examples for a term that denotes an Earth observation parameter is 'precipitation'. For such terms, we also would specify that these terms have a (physical) dimension, in which case we can add the basic unit for this parameter.

The entry definition status indicates to what extent the entry is completed. In many cases, it is safe to select initially 'Preliminary Draft' in the drop down menu (not shown).

Meningitis qualifies as a keyword for searches, and we mark the respective box.
