Introduction

Infrastructure needs describe infrastructure that is needed in order to collect observations or produce products that would help to meet requirements that are currently not met. Most often, a infrastructure need will be related to one or more requirements in the sense that the requirement depends on the observations/products provided by the infrastructure. Naming infrastructure needs requires careful considerations. On the one hand, a very general name (such as 'tide gauges') may leads to overlaps with infrastructure needs for the similar problems. On the other hand, a very specific name (e.g., 'tide gauges for tsunami detection') may lead to duplications for the same infrastructure and nearly identical characteristics for other requirements and/or applications.

The edit functions are described in detail in the Edit tutorials included in the General section for the Publish menue, specifically for the functions New, Edit/View all, Copy, Save, and Cancel.

Although Save will carry out a check for uniqueness, it is recommended to check the URR for similar or identical infrastructure need names before entering an anticipated new infrastructure need name into a blank form.

You may check the list of existing infrastructure needs, which can be accessed through the 'Edit/View all' button for the intended name or similar entries. The list of all published infrastructure needs includes the infrastructure needs name of each entry, the date of the last update, the number of comments available of the entry, and the date and author of the last comment on the entry.

It may also be helpful to conduct a search for a major keyword associated with the anticipated new infrastructure need, which may lead to the discovery of entries that refer to a similar infrastructure need with slightly different name (see the tutorials on searches).
